Engevik Laboratories
Doctors Mindy, Amy and Kristen Engevik

Our Research
Our research revolves around the gastrointestinal (GI) tract. While we are highly collaborative, we have established our research programs in distinct areas within the GI field.
Dr. Mindy Engevik's lab focuses on how commensal and pathogenic microbes interact with cells along the entire GI tract from the oral cavity to the colon.
Dr. Amy Engevik's lab focuses on cell trafficking and population shifts within the stomach, liver and intestines.
Dr. Kristen Engevik's lab focuses on cell signaling within the gut during inflammation, infection and cancer.
Together, we work to advance the GI field through collaborative science.

Our Lab Culture

In the Engevik Labs at Medical University of South Carolina, we strive to foster an environment where every member feels welcome, supported, and valued. We believe that different perspectives strengthen our science and
drive the rigorous research, training, and scientific growth that define our work.
We are also dedicated to giving back to our community in South Carolina through outreach and mentorship—whether by engaging with local schools, providing summer research opportunities, or supporting programs that expand access to biomedical research.
